Ériu was one of the queens of Ireland at the time of the Milesian invasion. 

She made a deal with the poet Amairgin that her name would be remembered as the principle name for Ireland.

She is also the mother of Bres by the Fomorian Elatha, and Bres causes much trouble among the Tuatha Dé Dananns.
