Army: The Red Branch / An Craobh Rua Cathbad was the druid in the court of Emain Macha in Ulster. He was father of King Conchobar Mac Nessa. He used to teach the arts of druidry to no more than one hundred pupils at one time. He pronounced auspicious days for warriors to go into battle. One time Cúchulainn overheard him pronounce that if a warrior took up arms for the first time on this particular day his name would be famous in Ireland forever though his life would be short. Cúchulainn went to King Conchobar and asked to be armed at once and had to be given the king's own weapons as he broke all the other weapons given to him. Cathbad also foretold of the tragedy that would befall Ulster because of Deirdre daughter of the poet Feidlimid. Stories, Myths & Legends associated with Cathbad
