Fuamhnach was the queen of the fairy mound Brí Léith in Co. Westmeath. 

Her husband Midhir married again to a beautiful mortal woman known as Etain which sent Fuamhnach  into a jealous rage she turned Etain into a pool of water, the pool turns into a worm, the worm into a giant purple fly of radiant beauty that fills the air with radiance and beauty. 

The whole story is recounted in the important legend of "The Wooing of Etain"

In one version of the ancient tales Fuamhnach is killed by Aengus Óg and in another it is Manannan who has both herself and Midhir burned in their mound.
