LADIES MANTLE

LATIN NAME : Alchemilla vulgaris.

COMMON / FOLK NAMES : Bears Foot, Leontopodium, Lion's Foot, Nine Hooks, Stellaria.

MEDICINAL PART : The Herb.

COUNTRY OF ORIGIN : Eastern North America, Greenland, Europe and Northern Asia.

HABITAT : Found in Damp places and in shady woods.

DESCRIPTION : Ladies mantle is a perennial plant. It grows from 4 to 18 inches high. The stem at first is green or blue-green turning to reddish or brownish later. It may be hairy or glabrous, depending on the location. The basal rounded leaves are palmately 7 to 9 lobed and finely toothed

FLOWERING PERIOD : The small, green flowers grow in loose panicles from May to October.

PROPERTIES : Astringent, Ferbrifuge, Tonic.

USES : Lady's mantle is taken internally for lack of appetite, rheumatism, stomach ailments, diarrhoea, enteritis, and menstrual problems. It also tends to coagulate blood and is useful for internal bleeding and as a mouth rinse
after having teeth pulled. Externally, lady's mantle makes a good douche for leucorrhea, and a wash or poultice for wounds.

Preparation : Gather the plant after the dew has dried, from June to August
