DESCRIPTION : Scotch
Broom is a deciduous shrub which grows on hillsides all over Scotland and
Ireland. The angular, slender stems bear alternate leaves consisting of 1
to 3 obovate or oblanceolate, downy leaflets. The solitary axillary
flowers are yellow and bloom from April to June. The fruit is a brown pod
containing 12 to 18 seeds.
PROPERTIES AND USES
Cathartic, diuretic and
emetic. However we do not recommend internal use of
this herb as it is highly toxic and can cause heart attacks in susceptible
persons. Some people claim that smoking the dried flowers causes
hallucinations.

Broom is a very powerful protective
plant. If hung in the corners of the house it protects against
malignity. An infusion of the plant sprinkled around the house can stop
malign influences, poltergeist activity, hauntings etc.
Broom can be made into a sweeping brush
(Hence the name),
which when used cleanses the atmosphere around the user.
Broom can be tied into bundles and burnt,
the smoke of which purifies the air and gives a blessing on the
surroundings.
To quell windy storms Broom should be burnt
and the ashes buried underground.
