Fairy Curses

If the fairy folk were particularly displeased with a person they cast a curse at him or her.

The curses took many forms:  The cows ran dry of milk or the milk was soured.  The afflicted person became ill with a mystery disease which only a fairy doctor could cure.

A cursed person became crippled with either a minor stroke which only affected the face or a major stroke which hit one side of the body.

For major transgressions against the fairies such as the cutting into their mounds or cutting a fairy thorn the penalty was death...

The peasants of Ireland used to take precautions against the fairies, salt and iron are two substances the fairies cannot withstand.

So sprinkling the ground around your house with salt could protect you from them.
