PLACES OF ORIGIN : Cultivated and grows wild everywhere.

HABITAT : Most soils can support parsley.

DESCRIPTION : Parsley is a biennial or perennial herb. From a thin, white root grows an erect, grooved, glabrous angular stem. The lower leaves are bi- or tri-ternately divided. The leaves are dark green and are  shiny.

FLOWERING PERIOD : The greenish-yellow or white flowers appear in compound umbels from June to August.

PROPERTIES : Antispasmodic Carminative Diuretic Emmenagogue Expectorant

USES : A tea made from the seeds and the leaves as well as the fresh juice is used for dropsy, jaundice, asthma, coughs and suppressed or difficult menstruation. The juice has also been used successfully to treat conjunctivitis and inflammation of the eyelids (blepharitis). 

It is IMPORTANT to take the proper dosage, and parsley is NOT to be used at all if kidney inflammation exits. Weak or sensitive persons can be helped by cooking a few slices of the root in a soup. An infusion of the herb can be used for gallstones. The leaves can be used as an external application to contusions. A tea made from the crushed seeds will kill all scalp vermin.
