Traditional Lore: Tullygobban (Tulaigh an Ghobain) is thought to be named after Goban Saor, the master craftsman of Irish Folklore. When local people did not know how these marvellous structures were built they said the Goban Saor built them. Mythological references credit him with building the megalithic chambers ( Cromlechs) and placing the glacial erratics on their pedestals throughout the Burren. His Wife and child are thought to be buried here on Tullygobban hill.

Cullcagh Mountain to the south was though to have been an important landmark for ancient people. You can see a Cairn on its eastern summit.

Information:  Archaeologists classify this Chamber as a 'wedge tomb' built at the end of the Neolithic Period c. 2500 BC. Tullygobban Cromlech faces towards the setting sun on the Winter Solstice (December 21st)- the shortest day of the year.
