Sualtam was the human father of Cúchulainn having married Dechtire his mother, who was descended from the Good God The Dagda and was also half sister of King Conchobar Mac Nessa.
His severed head rebuked the King of Ulster waking him up to fight against the onslaught of the armies of Queen Medb and to help Cúchulainn in his need at the battle of The Táin Bó Cuailgne.
