Diarmuid O'Duibhne was one of the best warriors in the army of the Fianna.  He served under Fionn Mac Cumhaill.  His best known exploits can be found in the story of The  Hostel of the Quicken Trees, and he is famous for his betrayal of Fionn and King Cormac Mac Art when he eloped with Cormac's daughter Gráinne after her forced marriage to Fionn in the story of Diarmuid and Gráinne.  He had four sons and unfortunately met his death because he broke a geis that was placed on him by his foster father Aengus Óg never to hunt the boar.

Diarmuid had an illegitimate half-brother, an individual who became known as the Boar of Ben Bulben, whose father was Roc, a steward to Aengus Óg and Crochnuit, Diarmuid's mother.  Diarmuid's father slew the boy in a rage but Roc changed the body into a boar and released it  with the prophecy that it would kill Diarmuid one day which of course it inevitably did.
